After months of trade rumors, speculation, smokescreens, and all the news coverage in the world, the Dwight Howard saga has finally ended. Here is the breakdown of the 4-team Blockbuster.
PHI gets: Andrew Bynum, Jason Richardson.
DEN gets: Andre Igoudala
ORL gets: Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Moe Harkless, Nikola Vucevic , Josh McRoberts and Christian Eyenga.*
LAL gets: Dwight Howard, Chris Duhon, Earl Clark from Orlando.
*Orlando also gets five draft picks over five years. From: http://www.examiner.com/article/nba-draft-picks-exchanged-four-team-dwight-howard-blockbuster-trade
Orlando Magic – Traded Draft Pick Breakdown
First-round picks: Nuggets or Knicks (2014); 76ers (2015); Lakers (2017)
Second-round picks: Nuggets (2013); Lakers (2015)
Regarding the 2014 first-round pick from either Denver or New York, Orlando will receive the least favorable of the two selections.
The first-round pick from Philadelphia is top-14 protected in the 2015 draft, top-14 protected in the 2016 draft, top-11 protected in the 2017 and top-8 protected in the 2018 draft. If the Sixers have not conveyed a first-round pick to the Magic by 2018, Orlando will receive second-round picks in 2018 and 2019 from Philadelphia.
The Lakers’ second-round draft pick in 2015 is also protected within the top-40. If the pick is not transferred in 2012, the team’s obligations to the Magic will be complete. Also protected is Los Angeles’ 2017 first-rounder, which has top-five security. If that pick is not conveyed to Orlando, the Magic will receive second-round picks from the Lakers in 2017 and 2018.
Here is my view on how each team did in the deal.
