NFL Week 12 – Picks
Every Sunday I will be making picks for each game of every week. The game that occurs before that Sunday will be picked in the previous article of updated power rankings each week. This past Thursday there were 3 games. I correctly picked both the Texans and Patriots to win, and incorrectly picked the Cowboys to win. Here are the rest of my picks for Week 12:
Week 12 (Winners in Bold and Italicized):
OAK @ CIN – The Bengals have been hot the last few weeks, and the Raiders are the Raiders. With the Bengals needing every easy win here on out, they should win this one.
MIN @ CHI – Cutler is in for the Bears today. He has gained much respect in the league after last week’s debacle by Jason Campbell. The Bears defense should bounce back, and no Percy Harvin for the Vikings.
SEA @ MIA – A game both teams need for their respective wild card races. The Seahawks are vulnerable on the road, but the Dolphins don’t have a huge home field advantage. The Seahawks should be able to cruise to a victory with the way both teams have been playing lately.
ATL @ TB – A very tough game to pick. The Bucs have the best rush defense in the league which should easily hold off Turner. Their offense has been red-hot in the last month, though Atlanta should be full force with both Grimes and Weatherspoon playing. The Falcons offense has struggled lately though it looks like Julio Jones will play, and doesn’t seem like Eric Wright will play. The Bucs have a terrible secondary and if Ryan can play any better than he did last week, the Falcons should be able to win. This should be a great game.
BUF @ IND – A virtual must-win for the Bills today, as they could fall a few games back in the wild card race with a loss. The Colts at home however, will be a tough task, and I don’t see the Bills having enough on defense to overcome Andrew Luck and the rest of the offense.
PIT @ CLE – The Steelers are not much of a team without Big Ben under center, and with him out, the Browns should be able to steal this one. The Browns offense is capable of putting up a few scores on the Steelers, and their defense could hold the Steelers under 10 points.
TEN @ JAX – This should be a high-scoring game with Locker and Henne under center for both teams. Both secondaries are terrible, but the difference will be Chris Johnson as he should have a big day running around in Jacksonville.
DEN @ KC – One of the elite teams in the AFC against arguably the worst, this game should not be close except for during kickoff. However, the last time a game like this happened, the elite team had to go to overtime to pull out a victory. I don’t think that will be the case today as the Broncos should control the game the whole way through.
BAL @ SD – Tempted to take the home team here, however the Chargers can be really bad on offense at anytime. With Gaither gone for the year, the offense will continue to struggle and the Ravens are too good of a team to take a loss here.
SF @ NO – You never know what 49’ers team will show up on a Sunday. The Saints at home are always tough, and I expect them to get Kaepernick rattled early and the defense should be able to do enough to stop him. I expect the offense to have little trouble today against a tough 49’ers defense.
STL @ ARZ – I don’t feel god about either of these teams, but someone has to win (or tie). The Cardinals have a good enough defense to hold off the Amendola-less offense of the Rams. This could be a really low scoring game, unless each defense can contribute to the scoring which could very well happen.
GB @ NYG – The Packers will be without several members of its defense today. It seems like the Giants will be at full force on offense. The Packers have been playing good football lately, and the Giants have not. It will be interesting to see if Eli’s arm looks more lively today then it has the past few weeks.
CAR @ PHI – A game of two underachieving teams, this game in the preseason looked like it could be a battle of two wild card hopefuls. Now, this game could determine which team will pick very high in the April draft. Because I am forced to pick a team, I will choose the home team.
That wraps up the picks for week 12. I will update my (hopefully) above .500 record every Tuesday or Wednesday. Looking forward to having a great Sunday. Good luck to your hometown team, and as always, Go Texans!
